OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH COORDINATOR COURSE
DURATION: 3 Days
Occupational safety and health (OSH) in the workplace, especially in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), is a crucial aspect that employers need to fully address. Workplace activities can pose risks of hazardous incidents, accidents, injuries, and even fatalities not only to workers but also to the public in the vicinity. In 2016, the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) developed the Strategic Plan for Occupational Safety and Health in the Small and Medium Industries Sector 2016–2020 (IKS 2020). This plan aimed to enhance the management of occupational safety and health in the SME sector to achieve a vision of instilling a culture of prevention in the workplace. One specific program under IKS 2020 was to increase the number of OSH practitioners. Each SME was required to appoint at least one employee as an Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Coordinator to manage OSH matters, including advising employers on safety measures, conducting workplace inspections, reporting accidents or hazardous incidents, implementing risk assessments, and following other employer directives related to OSH. To qualify as an OSH Coordinator, DOSH mandated the successful completion of a specified course offered by registered training centers.
Scope
The OSH Coordinator course covers essential topics such as occupational safety regulations, hazard identification, risk assessment, and etc. Participants gain a solid understanding of legal requirements and standards, enabling them to ensure compliance within SMEs. Overall, the course equips OSH Coordinators with the knowledge and skills needed to foster a safe and healthy working environment in SMEs.
